Observations: Second Coolest Car__Ever

Aston Martin DB5

Missing, stolen__the second coolest car ever produced__ gone. The Aston Martin DB5, the original car used by James Bond to ascend the serpentine road to Goldfinger’s Swiss lair, chassis number DP/216/1, taken! Taken in 1997 and still unaccounted for in 2009. This was the original tricked out car, the one with the ejector seat, the smokescreen, the revolving license plates, the machines guns, the blades that came out of the wheels, the tracking device and of course the oil slick that spit out of the back when a creep was following Bond. The DP/216/1 had long been stripped of its gadgets, refitted with fake gadgets, then stripped again and resold several times, but still who would steal James Bond’s Car. Another spy? Perhaps. Rumor has it that the original DB5 is now an artificial reef about 75 miles off the Florida coast. Feel free to speculate. Those who want to read the entire story of this famous car’s history can check out, Dave Worrall’s 1993 book, "The Most Famous Car in the World: The Complete History of the James Bond Aston Martin DB5." The 1964 movie Goldfinger catapulted the DP/216/1 and any Aston Martin DB5 for that matter into instant fame. It has been lusted after ever since. Every “wannabe spy” wanted one and still wants one. Of all the cars used in the James Bond movies, the DB5 is still the one to have. Those who appreciate the “coolest things ever made” still light up when one passes by__a not to frequent event however. What made the DB5 so special? Was it the reflected fame from the Goldfinger movie? In part, but at the time 1963 the DB5 was an awesome car in its own right__its looks were stunning, its 282bhp engine was perfect for a car of its size and weight and it came standard with a 5 speed manual transmission, pile carpets, reclining seats, electric windows and a fire extinguisher. How cool is that__ a fire extinguisher! You know your going to do some bitchin in a car that needs a fire extinguisher. Want one? A DB5 never used in the movie but used as a stand in for the movie’s PR tours was recently sold by RM actions for $2.1 million. What's the number one coolest car__Jaguar EKE.
